THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (December 7, 2011) – The U.S.-Mexico Chamber of Commerce (“USMCOC”) officially launches its newest chapter, U.S.-Mexico Chamber of Commerce – The Woodlands - Gulf Coast Chapter, whose reach will encompass the U.S. Gulf Coast region, to include South Texas from Houston, Austin, San Antonio, The Rio Grande Valley to Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi.
The USMCOC was incorporated in 1973 by a group of U.S. and Mexico business people in the District of Columbia as a Section 501(c)(6) non-profit business organization and is chartered as a bi-national chamber promoting trade and investment between the two countries. As a bi-national organization, the USMCOC’s reach and initiatives have provided member businesses and organizations with a forum to build mutually beneficial trade and investment relationships and to create awareness of business issues and concerns, while promoting business between the United States and Mexico. With this new chapter there are now ten (10) USMCOC chapters in the U.S. and another nine (9) chapters in Mexico’s primary business markets.
Although the newly formed chapter emerges in a much more modern and virtual world, it still holds on to the original founders’ core values which continue to give rise to new personal and business networks, the source of new business activity and innovation. As representatives of the business community whose focus is on trade and investment between Mexico and the U.S., The Woodlands-Gulf Coast Chapter believes in open and transparent dialog about the business issues affecting the business communities of the respective countries while availing itself of the richness in diversity, culture and perspective. All those who, based on their leadership, education and drive are able to add value to the Chapter and what it represents, are welcomed as members. "The United States – México Chamber of Commerce welcomes our newest Chapter, The Woodlands-Gulf Coast, which will be based in The Woodlands, Texas. This Chapter will give our Chamber the needed coverage in the Gulf States of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama”, said Albert Zapanta, USMCOC President and CEO.
“The Greater Houston Partnership is delighted to welcome the US-Mexico Chamber of Commerce The Woodlands - Gulf Coast Chapter to the region,” said Jeff Moseley, president and CEO of the Greater Houston Partnership. “The USMCOC gives Houston businesses an unfair advantage as they grow their revenues and create jobs due to trade with Mexico.”
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Mexico is among the top three trading partners with the U.S competing heavily with Canada and China. Hence, it is imperative to continue the efforts of establishing, furthering and growing relations with citizens from both countries. The main value of The Woodlands-Gulf Coast Chapter will rest within the collective group and individual members. The Chapter aspires to be the catalyst for new relationships, solutions, and investment as well as the source of continuous success stories. Pete C. Garcia, Executive Director of USMCOC, The Woodlands-Gulf Coast says “Our primary mission is to HELP YOU CONNECT WITH MEXICO. “Our function is to help our members drive more profits while generating revenues in trade with Mexico whether they are new to the market or have ongoing business with Mexico”.
The Founding members of The Woodlands-Gulf Coast Chapter include Amegy Bank of Texas, Exxon, Lucia’s Oaks, Memorial Hermann Hospitals, MFR PC, OBT-Orgain Bell & Tucker LLP, Rice University, The Woodlands Development Company, United Airlines, Univsión, and the Consulado General de México.
